Philadelphia lawyer Mark Aronchick, a special election-law expert hired by the Rendell administration, called the number "a theoretically tiny universe of people."County election officials testified that they would count Nader votes as write-in votes for him.If the court required a new ballot, county election officials would be hard-pressed to comply, state lawyers argued. To do so, they would have to sacrifice time and resources needed to meet other demands, such as processing the crush of new voter-registration forms that this tight presidential contest has generated. When overseas voters are weighed against that potential pool, "the scales don't even come close," Aronchick said.

Mark Aronchick, a Philadelphia lawyer recently hired by the Rendell administration as an election-law consultant, said the department was trying to give "a second chance to vote" to a very small number of absentee voters without adequate justification.

"The government has not (produced) one real voter ... that cares about what they're proposing," said Aronchick, who also is a fund-raiser for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Throw in the Governor Ed Rendell's controversial state-employee poll watchers and appointed Pa. election-law consultant Philly attorney Mark Aronchick and there just might be a legitimate argument that there's a stacked deck.Aronchick assisted Gore's legal battles in 2000 and said Democrats were fighting "evil forces" and "a heart of darkness."

Mark Aronchick, a prominent Philadelphia lawyer, is a fund-raiser for John Kerry, worked on Rendell's campaign, and helped coordinate Al Gore's legal challenge during Florida's recount fiasco in 2000.
    ...
Exactly what role Mr. Aronchick will assume is unclear.Initially, Republicans were told Aronchick would help oversee the state's Election Day "task force" of volunteers and lawyers culled from Rendell's ranks. Now the governor's spokeswoman says Aronchick will provide legal advice "should problems or questions arise."

Philly lawyer Mark Aronchick is co-chairman of Dean's Pennsylvania campaign and one of 70 members of the Dean's List, the candidate's core fund-raisers.

Aronchick was in on the 2 a.m. inner-circle conversations the night of the New Hampshire disaster.

He said the campaign made a strategic decision to skip Tuesday's action to focus on delegate-rich Michigan and Washington, whose primaries are tomorrow, and Wisconsin on Feb. 17.

"I argued that we at least compete [last Tuesday] in Arizona and New Mexico, but the decision was not to compete," Aronchick said."The delegate-rich states are more expensive and it will take everything the campaign has."

Aronchick thinks Dean still has a chance, "but the stars all have to line up right."
    ...
"It's going to be quite challenging," Aronchick said, "but it's certainly possible.I've never seen an election as volatile as this."

The media had fun with Dean's shouting to supporters in Iowa, suggesting that his screams alienated voters in New Hampshire.Nonsense, said Aronchick.

"I spoke with 200 to 250 voters up there in the days leading to the primary," Aronchick said.

By settling on Nov. 10, the state leaves itself enough time to count the ballots and factor them into a new law triggering a recount in statewide races closer than half of one percentage point, said Mark Aronchick, a Philadelphia election-law expert hired by the Rendell administration.
