  The keynote address on Saturday morning was given by Ian Archbell, Vice President of Product Management, Micro Focus.With a lot of humour and interaction with the audience, Ian focused on the Micro Focus approach to the issues of leveraging the COBOL enterprise assets into the contemporary topologies of .NET, J2EE and Web Services.Micro Focus is currently the only COBOL vendor (at the conference) to publicly announce they will be implementing all COBOL 2002 features.One of the interesting statistics that Ian mentioned was that of the estimated 1.7 million COBOL programmers there is an estimated 700,000 working on non mainframe/mini platforms.This was a larger number than most expected and seemed to indicate there is already a large number of programmers using COBOL on Unix and Windows platforms.
  
  Fujitsu and Micro Focus ran a number of 2 hour hands-on training sessions throughout the conference to enable attendees to find out, first hand, how their products really work and to explore some of the new technologies via their COBOL products.
