   The opportunities for Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance to succeed at its effort are endless, said Kathryn Aranda, the executive director of Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc., which has been working with Virginia Main Street for five years.
   
   "Harrisonburg is dealing with a different situation than many other Main Street communities face," Aranda told the AFP.
   
   "Many communities that get involved in the program are looking for assistance to revitalize their fortunes, so to speak. But Harrisonburg is facing a situation that involves the protection of historic and other assets in the face of rather heated economic development going on in other parts of the city.
   
   "They are going about this absolutely the right way," Aranda said.
