Phoebe A. Arancio

Phoebe Arancio took it upon herself, on behalf of the Zonta Club of Suffolk, to collect the phones from various drop off points.Ms. Arancio contacted Bell Atlantic and they agreed to program the phones and provide the 911 service.The Coalition is now distributing these phones to those in need at no cost.I would like to share a portion of a letter I just received from a woman who has one of these phones.

"Hope this letter finds you well.I write this letter to thank your organization for the cellular telephone you provided me with, the Friday before Easter Sunday.I cannot tell you what a difference it means to me to have some sort of service in place in which I feel safer.I cannot afford to purchase a cellular telephone and keep it activated.

I extend this appreciation to Phoebe Arancio, Zonta Club of Suffolk, Bell Atlantic, the Legislature and to all of you who generously donated your cellular telephones.Working together made this life saving service possible.

However, as one need is met, another equally important need arises.At this time, we are asking for your financial help.Due to some unforseen circumstances, we are experiencing difficulties maintaining our shelter program.The shelter needs a new security and fire alarm system, rising costs of operation and lower than expected occupancy have all contributed to our financial crisis.
