IRS Special Agent Maurice Aouate says dealers have a "thing for the bling" and "seek out jewelers with the reputation to break the law."

"Everybody has a duty to file accurate tax returns," Aouate said.

"Drug dealers and the people they solicit to help them, like any other criminals, are motivated by greed," said Maurice Aouate, IRS special agent in charge.

"The charges ... allege that these corporate officers took advantage of illegal workers to enrich themselves and established their own underground economy that violated numerous laws created to protect the legitimate workforce," said Maurice Aouate, a special agent with the IRS criminal investigation unit.

Berg was joined in the announcement by Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent In Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Maurice Aouate, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Internal Revenue Service.

"IRS Criminal Investigation will vigorously pursue any individual who uses IRS forms to intimidate and try to create legal and financial problems for the hard-working and dedicated people whose job is to keep our towns safe," said Maurice Aouate, IRS Criminal Investigation special agent in charge.

She was arrested Dec. 8, 2005 by U.S. Marshals, while she was retrieving her mail at her home in Griffin, Ga.
