Professor Ghassan Aouad is Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law & the Built Environment and Professor of Construction IT & Management within the School of the Built Environment.
Ghassan joined Salford in 1992 as a Research Fellow working on the Integrated Construction (ICON) Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded project.Prior to joining Salford, he spent five years in the Department of Civil & Building Engineering of Loughborough University, where he obtained his MSc in Construction (1987) and his PhD entitled Integrated Planning Systems for the Construction Industry(1991).Ghassan also holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Beirut Arab University.
Prior to becoming Dean in August 2006, Ghassan held the position of Director of the Research Institute for the Built & Human Environment (1999-2003) where he and his colleagues achieved the 6* RAE rating.Between 2003 and 2006 he was Head of School of Construction & Property Management (now the School of the Built Environment) at the University.Ghassan is also Director of the £5m EPSRC funded Salford Centre for Research & Innovation in the Built & Human Environment, a Visiting Professor and chairman of the scientific board at ESAI (College of Real Estates, Lisbon, Portugal), and lead academic for the construction cluster of the North West Universities Association (NWUA).
Ghassan spent the last 17 years teaching and researching subjects related to the areas of Information Modelling and Visualisation, nD simulation, and process mapping.His publications record include over 72 refereed journal papers, 113 conference papers, and a number of books, book chapters and reports.His most recent book (Constructing the Future: nD Modelling) was published by Taylor and Francis in December 2006 as the result of his international work in the areas of 3D/4D/ and nD modelling.Ghassan is currently on the editorial board of more than eight international journals, including Construction Management and Economics.
