RCMP inspector Brian Andrews has gone to Bangkok to help lead a team of Canadian forensic investigators who are dealing with the mounting death toll.
"We're going there to do whatever we can to assist the Thailand police department in trying to make some sense out of this great tragedy," Andrews told The Vancouver Sun.
Andrews, who is the officer in charge of the RCMP's Pacific region forensic identification service, was in Ottawa on Sunday, preparing the team for departure. He will co-lead the team with RCMP Insp.

The team came together quickly, said Andrews, who heard about the mission on New Year's Day.
Andrews, who has worked on the Missing Women Joint Task Force and headed the forensic side of the investigation on Robert Pickton's pig farm, said he is not certain what his team will be asked to do in Thailand, but everyone is eager to help out.
"It's a group of highly-dedicated professionals who want to do what they can to help out in this terrible situation," he said.
