    For Drakes Creek Middle School student Tyler Anderson, the rewards of military service start early.

    Tyler, 12, is in training to become a senior member of the Civil Air Patrol, a voluntary organization focusing on aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services.Tyler came one step closer to becoming a senior member recently when he was promoted to cadet airman, an honor known as the Curry Award.

    "I'm real honored," he said."Very rarely are kids my age able to participate in military stuff.It's real cool."

    The Civil Air Patrol is a voluntary organization of 51 squadrons in 50 states and Puerto Rico, attached to the U.S. Air Force as an auxiliary.As part of the organization, Tyler has taken part in search-and-rescue missions and aerospace education.He's also received training in military dress so he'll know the proper uniform to wear when he's on duty.

    "We go out and do stuff for general emergency services," Tyler said.

    "It's a real big honor, considering I've never been promoted for anything," Tyler said.
