Anderson known for faith, ability to inspire
"A friend who seldom attended church shared that she wanted her children to learn of the finer things, thus they visited museums, galleries and read the classic. My advice was 'If you want your child to know and appreciate the best, start your child with Jesus and work your way down to Shakespeare.'"
- TheRev.Terry K. Anderson
...
Even as a child, Anderson was expected to become renowned. With his charisma, his ability to articulate, his superb intellect and great faith in himself made him a well-known academician, and others can attest to his brilliance.
His training started at home where he grew up in a Christian environment. He was saved at a young age and baptized at the greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice. As a child, he grew up with True Light and participated in most church activities. This church was also where he began as a minister. He later became pastor and later went on to pastor Zion Travelers Baptist Church in Mamou.Anderson served at both churches for nearly a decade.
In 1990, Anderson was called to the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston. He is noted as the fourth pastor and one of the youngest in the church's history.Anderson said serving at Lilly Grove has been a blessing for the church and its members. The numerous activities in which Anderson offers - evangelism, ministry, fellowship and discipleship - have Lilly Grove overflowing.
The Eunice native came home to share the word and blessing last week as he served as revivalist at St. Paul Baptist Church with pastor the Rev. Willie Maynard.Word spread quickly that Anderson would be in town. From the first day, hundreds of Christians assembled to hear the word presented as only Anderson delivers. With standing room only each night, there was still room for shouting, praising and lifting up the name of Jesus.Every second was spirit-filled and the length of the sermon was always too short for the hundreds who wanted more and more.Anderson mixed fun, humor and reflection of the past to make his points. For every point, there was a scripture to reinforce and lend credence to the pastor's message.
With a schedule more stringent than most professionals, Anderson finds great delight in serving more than his community and state. He has traveled to Haiti several times for missionary work.He describes the setting as one in dire need of food, medical assistance, clothing and all of the luxuries we take for granted.Anderson has pledged to make a difference in the lives of those in Haiti where there is no sanitary water to drink or housing. In the near future, the Terry K. Anderson Medical Clinic in Haiti will be used to ensure Anderson's vision becomes a reality.Considering all Anderson has done in his lifetime, and considering he is still young according to the biblical promise of length of life, he is using every day to spread the message, not just through words but through deeds.
Most who attended the revival came to hear a great revivalist, a great vocalist, but mostly a young man that they can remember as a child, and one who has made so many so proud. The product of a fine family in Eunice with 10 siblings, Anderson has his messages televised and shown across the country and abroad.
