HERKIMER - An open house to welcome Sue Anderson, the new director of Herkimer's Frank J. Basloe Library, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the library, 245 North Main St.
The event will be hosted by the Library Board of Trustees and staff, with refreshments provided by the Friends of the Basloe Library. The public is welcome.
Anderson had been working as the reference librarian at Herkimer County Community College, and taught an information literacy course at the college about how to do research. She's also the organist at the Herkimer Reformed Church.

HERKIMER - Sue Anderson is the new director of the Frank J. Basloe Library.
Anderson, 62, of Cedarville, oversees eight regular employees, two work-study students and a community service volunteer
Anderson was the library manager at the West Winfield Library from 1988-2004. She earned a master's degree in library and information science from Syracuse University in 2004.
She was a part-time reference librarian at Herkimer County Community College while working part-time at the Ilion Free Public Library. She also taught information literacy at HCCC in the fall of 2005.
She was hired as the new director of Basloe Library Feb. 21. The Observer-Dispatch asked her about her new role.
O-D: What do you do as library director?
Anderson: Manage the staff, schedules and library programs, plus all the fiscal duties, like the budget and paying the bills.
We have a genealogy room, and we recently purchased new shelving through a bequest for that room, and I got to help make the decision on how that would be handled.

Anderson: To meet the needs of the community, at all age levels, for all types of information.
