POCATELLO - Two of Pocatello's Catholic schools should be consolidated into a single campus before the next school year starts, said Principal Steve Anderson.
St. Joseph's Catholic School, 403 N. Hayes Ave., which now serves 4th, 5th and 6th graders, will be closed and converted into administrative offices.
St. Joseph's students will move into a three-classroom, modular building, which will be built on part of the playground at St. Anthony School, 540 N. 7th Ave. Students in preschool through 3rd grade now attend St. Anthony.
Pocatello's third Catholic School, Cre-Act Elementary School, will not be affected by the change.

Anderson said several private donors, who wished to remain anonymous, contributed toward the addition. Anderson expected to raise the final sum needed for the $125,000 expansion during an auction fund-raiser Saturday at Phil Meador Courtesy Ford.
The Parent Teacher Club of the two schools earned about $40,000 during last year's auction.

Steve Anderson said the Catholic Church hopes to build a facility for a single Sunday mass for members of St. Joseph's, St. Anthony and St. Paul's in Chubbuck within the next five years. The building would also house a new, replacement Catholic school.
Anderson said priests are in high demand, and within a few years, there will probably be a single priest assigned to cover all of Pocatello and Chubbuck.

Steve Anderson had been a priest in the Charismatic Episcopal Church. Four years ago he left that communion and he, his wife and children became Roman Catholic.
While this has happened in a few other places, this will be the first married priest in our diocese. Steve and Cindy (his wife of 25 years) and their kids will relocate to Holy Family in Grand Blanc where Steve will serve as associate pastor.
Bishop Mengeling asked us to keep Steve and the two other men who will be ordained to the priesthood in our prayers. -
