After being discharged from service, he became a boiler operator for Foremost Condensery of Mishicot. He retired as a union steward from the condensery in 1975. He was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, and was a member of the Lutheran Men's Club. He was an avid reader, fisherman, and gardener.
