   CreditLink Head of Risk Management and the ORION service, Mr Peter Anderson, said investigations into spending patterns clearly show fraudsters try to take advantage of increased spending over holidays and during major events.
   
   "If the increase in fraudulent transactions we have experienced over the recent holiday periods is a guide, we predict the upcoming long weekends will also be periods of high risk.
   
   "It appears some fraudsters try to take advantage of busy trading periods where retail assistants can be too busy to check signatures and therefore are more likely to use a stolen card and get away with faking a signature. We would encourage retailers to be extra vigilant during holiday periods to ensure they check every signature, every time," Mr Anderson said.
