Anderson will speak on novel's myths
Friends of the Houston Cole Library, Jacksonville State University, will present Nancy Grisham Anderson at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, on the 11th floor of the library. Anderson will speak on "To Kill a Mockingbird: Successes and Myths," as part of the Alabama Humanities Foundation Road Scholars' speaker program.
Despite the successes of Harper's Lee To Kill a Mockingbird, myths about the novel abound. Anderson will present a detailed discussion of some of the myths, underscoring the subtlety, complexity, richness and honesty of this enduring Alabama classic.
A Mississippi native, Anderson completed her undergraduate degree (magna cum laude) at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. She did her graduate work in English at the University of Virginia. After teaching at Millsaps and in high schools in Germany and the United States, Anderson joined the English faculty at Auburn University Montgomery where she is currently an associate professor of English and director of Actions Build Community: The AUM-Taulbert Initiative.
Anderson met Harper Lee in 1983 when they both appeared on the Alabama History and Heritage Festival in Eufaula. -
