The technology is becoming increasingly popular, with dozens of districts throughout the state considering adopting the system, said Matt Anderson, a manager with Zonar Systems, the Seattle-based company that created the system.

Currently, a GPS is equipped on about 30,000 school buses nationwide.

All the information is stored in a database that can be accessed anytime, even 10, 20 or more years down the line, officials said.

"In 10 years, we will be able to pull up the record of any bus and can tell you how fast it was traveling and what street it was on at 10 a.m. today," Anderson said.
