Weiner was selected Thursday evening after the commission conducted interviews with the four finalists, Anderson said.
    ...
Anderson called Weiner "a team builder" with "futuristic ideas."
    ...
"He's had a lot of experience with mobile records management and working with other jurisdictions in that area ... " Anderson said.
    ...
Before the offer can become official, Weiner must pass a background check along with routine physical and psychological tests, Anderson said.
    ...
Anderson said she expects that to be completed in mid-July.

The finalists include two men from Wisconsin and one each from Missouri and New York, said commission chairwoman Mary Anderson.
    ...
Although commission members weren't involved in the initial interviews, Anderson said she is pleased with the finalists, who were recommended as "high-quality people" by a professional panel.

"I think we should be able to make a good choice from this list," Anderson said.

The actual selection process, however, could be slowed a bit because the commission also needs to fill some vacant patrol positions at the same time, said Mary Anderson, commission chairwoman.

In the coming weeks, the commission will decide which of the applicants will go in front of a select panel of law enforcement officials. That panel then will score the applicants so the commission can choose the finalists who will come in for a formal interview, Anderson said.
