The Literacy Center for the Midlands is pleased to bestow the 2005 Spirit of Literacy Award on Marian Anderson, Director Emeritus of the Literacy Center for the Midlands.
Marian, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Nebraska, has served as a member of the Literacy Center Board for more than a decade and now presides as our only Director Emeritus. During her tenure on the Board, she served on numerous committees and held an advisory role for many of our fundraising initiatives. Her insight and commitment have been invaluable in shaping the programs and image of the Literacy Center for the Midlands
Marian's passion for literacy and education extends beyond her term with the Literacy Center. She has served as a Trustee of Doane College and has a played a major role in numerous University of Nebraska projects. In 1984, Marian was the first woman to be named Chair of the University of Nebraska Foundation Board of Directors, and, along with her husband Harold, chaired the 1993-2000 Campaign Nebraska fundraising effort.
