While visiting them and volunteering at other similar facilities, Anderson said she noticed that several residents weren't sick enough to require nursing home care. "But they can't be at home either, or a lot of their families can't afford to stay home and care for them," she said.

A member of Shiloh Baptist Church in York City, Anderson said she also felt God inspiring her to help the elderly by offering them a place where they can feel at home, while getting the loving care they need.

"We just want to help them live their lives as long as they can," she said.

Plans for facility: The facility -- to be situated on more than two acres of land at 2033 S. Queen St. in York Township -- will have 45 rooms to house 40 to 45 residents and will feature social areas, a physical therapy room and a beauty room, where barbers and hairstylists can serve residents.

Anderson -- who had worked 22 years at Standard Register in Springettsbury Township -- said she hopes to hire at least 25 staff members.

In the meantime, she is working with local medical professionals and contractors to help her with the project.

Her organization received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status last year.She received her public administration certificate through the state Department of Public Welfare in 2002.

With plans to open the assisted nursing facility next year, Anderson is hosting the second annual M.J. Anderson Loving Care Inc.

"I just thank God how everything has been coming together to make this (facility) possible," Anderson said.
