Cowboys & Indians Magazine and WORDHARVEST have selected M. Kent Anderson as the winner of the annual Tony Hillerman Writers Conference mystery short story contest. In addition to the $1500 prize, Anderson's story, "Going Back ... To Where You Wanted To Be In The First Place" will be published in the March issue of Cowboys & Indians. Anderson, who lives in Sewanee, Tennessee, is Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee. Anderson also has lived in New Mexico and Oklahoma and worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The contest is held annually as part of the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference: Focus on Mystery, presented by WORDHARVEST
The contest, now in its third year, received a record 266 entries from professional and amateur writers throughout the U.S and from England and Canada. All entries were judged anonymously. Anderson came to Albuquerque to accept the award at the conference's keynote banquet that featured mystery mega author J.A. Jance. -
