    Lieutenant (Lt) Garth Anderson was appointed Administrative Officer for the 3rd Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) (3JR(NR) effective 22 January 2007.

    Lt Anderson enlisted in 3 JR(NR) on 14 June 1998, which, coincidentally, was also his birthday.After 13 months of basic training he passed out on 10 August 1999.Immediately after this, he underwent Officer Cadet training, following which he was commissioned as an Officer.He served as an Officer in the Reserve until 30 December 2002, when he joined the Regular Force.Lt Anderson was sent to Fort Benning, United States Infantry School in Georgia, USA, where he did the Infantry Officer Basic Course.He has also completed the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course at the United States Army Intelligence, Fort Huachuca, Arizona.This was the precursor for his appointment as Intelligence Officer of the First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment.Lt Anderson also served as Acting Adjutant of the First Battalion prior to his appointment as Administrative Officer of the Third Battalion.

    Lt Col Anderson joined the JDF in 1984 after graduating from the College of Arts, Science and Technology with a diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in September 1985, Captain in September 1989, Major on 03 September 1996 and to his present rank on 30 November 2002.

    After successfully completing his initial officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom he was posted to the Second Battalion of the Jamaica Regiment as an infantry officer.

    Lt Col Anderson served in the infantry as a platoon commander and as the Regimental Signals Officer.In 1992 he became the officer in charged of aircraft maintenance for the JDF Air Wing and subsequently was appointed SEMEO (senior advisor on electrical and mechanical engineering matters to Headquarters JDF) and Force Conservation Officer.

    During 1996 Lt Col Anderson served as an instructor on the Jamaica Junior Command and Staff Course and served as the Standards Officer for the course in 1997 and 1998.He took up the post of Officer Commanding JDF Supply Depot in 1998 until departing for Senior Staff College in 1999.

    Lt Col Anderson holds a Bachelors of Engineering (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Defence Administration from Cranfield University in the UK.He is a graduate of the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College and the US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth.In 2002 he was awarded the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service.

    He chairs or serves on a number of committees and boards to include, chairman of the Strategic Working Group of the JDF's Strategic Defence Review committee and chairman of the JDF Information Technology Steering Committee.He serves on the board of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and is a Justice of the Peace for the parish of Kingston.
