   At one time, the development's Diamond Hitch ski-in, ski-out home sites were the highest-priced parcels in the state, according to Leesa Poole Anderson, a broker and owner of Montana Real Estate Co.    Moonlight Basin Ranch is located around the 36,000 square-foot Moonlight Lodge, which opened to the public in December 2000. The lodge has a spacious dining room, bar, shops, a spa and swimming pools. A massive two-story stone fireplace, built with 175 tons of rock, dominates the dining room and main entrance. Stuffed mountain goats perch along the rock work, looking down on visitors.

   The attention to quality and design and an undeniable wow factor in the lodge set the tone for the rest of the project, Anderson said.
   
   Clustered around the lodge are homes, townhomes and condominiums. They range in price from $290,000 for a 900-square-foot cabin to $695,000 for a three-bedroom, four-bath home with a loft.

   Those parcels ranged in size from 171 to 305 acres, Anderson said.
   
   "It's a pretty standard rule of thumb to see the developer go in and maximize development," Anderson said. But that hasn't been the case at Moonlight Basin Ranch.
   
   "Moonlight has been able to conserve huge wildlife migration corridors and tracts of land by selling to buyers willing to take advantage of conservation easements," Anderson said.
