Through its simplified management, VERITAS NetBackup Professional has reduced administration and maintenance costs for SAFLINK's IT team, which can now focus on other important activities."Our help desk used to be inundated with requests to track lost files, or reconfigure lost or stolen laptop computers," says Andersen."Since deploying VERITAS NetBackup Professional, we have reduced our help-desk calls by 15 percent."

VERITAS NetBackup Professional also reduces the company's need to invest in storage hardware by decreasing the amount of storage space required.SAFLINK takes advantage of the product's Single Instance Store technology to dynamically discover and store only one version of operating systems, applications, and unique data thereby reducing the redundancy across the organization.The company has further reduced its storage requirements by using the Delta File Technology built into VERITAS NetBackup Professional that enables SAFLINK to backup only data that has changed since the initial backup."We have been able to cut down on storage requirements by 40 percent since deploying VERITAS NetBackup Professional," says Andersen.

"Because we are just starting out, we can wait six months or so for integration," Anderson says.

Microsoft officials say support for back-end applications is farther down the road.

Saflink is hosting the application in house, along with its Exchange servers, and Anderson says that offers tight integration with Outlook that he anticipates will get even better as Microsoft enhances the product.

Both Racca and Anderson say the interface is intuitive, but Anderson notes that his users' past experience with ACT! made it more difficult for them to transition to a new method of doing things."ACT! has a very unique look and feel and MS CRM is nothing like that," Anderson says."So, it's a new approach for people and required some in-house training."
