The investigation led to the doorsteps of some of the most powerful men in the state of Nebraska - including newspaper publisher Harold Andersen (a lunch partner of George Bush), local columnist Peter Citron, a judge, the mayor of Omaha, the city's Games and Parks Commissioner, a prominent attorney, the former police chief of Omaha, businessman Alan Baer, and multi-billionaire Warren Buffet (for whose son King sponsored a political fund-raiser).

Harold W. Andersen, retired publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, writes two columns for the World-Herald every week.He has mentioned his wife Marian loves her baseball. There are 30 teams playing major league baseball this summer. She has watched major league baseball games in 29 of these 30 ball parks.Where does she have a trip planned for later this summer?Pittsburgh.

Why Pittsburgh? To watch the Pirates play in their new ballpark. She will then be "batting" 100%.She has seen major league baseball in Pittsburgh, but not in the new ballpark. She is a true baseball afficionado.

Harold W. Andersen, say it isn't so!

A recent Sunday column on the editorial pages of the Omaha World-Herald announced that this columnist is changing directions and his interesting and provocative editorials will no longer be available in print. He is, in his own words, "entering the electronic telecommunication age" and will have his future editorials and comments only on his new Website.

I have thoroughly enjoyed his Thursday and Sunday editorials for the past 15 years and they have always been one of the first things I turn to after devouring the sports pages.

Andersen is a former CEO of the World-Herald and assisted greatly in its drive to become one of the top newspapers in the entire country.

Harold Andersen, retired CEO of the Omaha World-Herald, in his most recent editorial, sums up the current situation very succinctly in my opinion: "There has been a great deal of comment indicating that the appointment of Tom Osborne will have a calming effect on this volatile Husker football situation. But there is also the possibility that Osborne's active involvement in the football program, including the possibility that he might fire Callahan could create a troubling uncertainty in the minds of players, the present coaching staff and possible recruits".

Having known Osborne since his high school days, I know he was the right and only logical candidate for the interim AD job.He of course can't be expected to turn the football program around in a few weeks or months.Maybe even years. But hopefully he can unify the fans throughout the state, assess the situation this winter and make some hard choices.

Let's hope the rabid fans will be patient and let him do his job, as I believe he will.

Another Nebraska newspaper mainstay, Harold Andersen, saw his post-retirement career come to an end in 2007.After retiring as Omaha World-Herald publisher in 1989 in the middle of the Franklin scandal, Andersen went on to become a part-time columnist in the paper's opinion pages until late this summer.

While he attempted to present the situation as a desire to enter the world of cyberspace with his website, HaroldAndersen.com, his repeated efforts to start a Harold newsletter and his attempts to have his columns printed in other Omaha newspapers post-World Herald made it fairly evident that Andersen was forced off the OWH's daily double-page opinion spread.

The year wasn't a total loss for Andersen, however. He was able to continue his quest against Malcolm X, helping block X from the Nebraska Hall of Fame. His rationale included the fantastic line, "[Malcolm X] denigrated Christianity."
