Abdissa Aman

Abdissa Aman, fourth grade Ethiopian refugee student at Jane Addams Elementary School in Sioux Falls, was selected as the first place winner in the Elementary School Division of the seventh annual World Refugee Day photo contest.This national contest is sponsored by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie.

Abdissa's photo, "Circle Of Friends," depicts his friends on the playground and captures the contest theme "A New Home, A New Life."The theme focuses on the United States' proud tradition of welcoming refugees and the many contributions they bring to towns and cities across America.

As a winner of this national photo contest, Abdissa, along with his father Jemal, have been awarded a trip to Washington, D.C., for the World Refugee Day celebration June 20, where his photo will be recognized."It is quite an accomplishment on Abdissa's part and a proud moment for his family," says a UNHCR representative.
