    David Alves, PCGID president and board member of the Northern California Water Association, said district landowners who farm in the Sacramento Valley volunteered to participate in the project.

    "This project signifies an important realization that farmers can protect endangered species and prosper at the same time.The new facility helps us protect salmon, while maintaining a vibrant agricultural economy well into the future," Alves said.

    In addition to the $5.3 million provided by the AFSP, the CALFED Bay-Delta Category III Program contributed $5.5 million toward the project.Category III funds were provided by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California through the California Urban Water Agencies (CUWA).
