    > Quarterback Alves directs McKinney Boyd in first playoff run
    ...
Case in point, the leading rusher in Class 4A in the Dallas-Forth Worth area this season is Daryn Alves, sophomore quarterback of McKinney Boyd High School (8-3), who stands just 5-foot-7 and weighs all of 155 pounds.

Alves finished the regular season with 2,366 yards on the ground in 296 carriers, for an average of eight yards per run while piling up 29 touchdowns. To illustrate the magnitude of his feat, Alves' total was nearly 600 yards more than the second place rusher who came in with 1,812 yards.

His 180 points scored also topped all Metroplex Class 4A athletes , Alves added three 2-point conversions to accompany his 29 touchdowns as he led the Broncos to an average of 410 total yards per game.

Alves made the monumental jump from commanding the freshman team a year ago , the Boyd frosh went 8-1-1 , to piloting the varsity in 2007 look easy as Boyd is making its maiden voyage in post-season play , not bad considering the school is just two-years old though.
    ...
With a roster of 20 seniors this year plus the addition of Alves, Boyd not only made the playoffs, but won their bi-district game with Richardson Pearce last Friday, 49-35.
    ...
Alves rushed for five touchdowns in the Boyd win, finishing the night with 30 scampers for 251 yards while fumbling twice.

The Wylie offense moved the ball up and down the field, and the matchup of the Pirates' defense against one of the area's top runners, quarterback Daryn Alves, was a mismatch.Alves averaged more than 200 rushing yards per game before Friday, but he had less than 30 by the time Wylie was leading Boyd (3-2), 34-0, midway through the third quarter.

And McKinney Boyd's Daryn Alves had a monster sophomore year, rushing for 2,636 yards. It's hard to pick just one from those three breakout players. Our 2007 Pick in 3A: DB D'Anton Lynn, Celina Since he missed much of his junior year with an injury, Lynn, in our minds, qualified for a potential breakout candidate. And since it's harder to quantify the impact of a defensive player, we're not saying this was the right or wrong choice, though Lynn was named his District's MVP and helped lead Celina to a state title. Some other guys returning in 2008 that had breakout '07 campaigns: Gonzales WR Ckody Burton; Cuero QB Tyler Arndt; and Gilmer QB Darien "Stump" Godfrey. Our 2007 Pick in 2A: QB Travis Chrisman, Comfort A starter at Ingleside in 2005, Chrisman transferred to Comfort for the 2006 season, where he was moved to WR.He moved back to QB for 2007 and lived up to our billing.
