Pastor Carlos Alvarez decided to order more chairs for his church - and fill them.His vision has brought new life for the whole community through the care given to children.
When Carlos Alvarez came to the Iglesia de Dios de El Manchén, Church of God of El Manchén, in March 2000, the small congregation was slowly disappearing.The church, located on the north part of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, had been there for over 20 years.It had 45 members and 70 people attending the service, but this was no obstacle for Pastor Alvarez's vision.One of the first things he requested was for the church to buy more folding chairs because they would need them.Although it seemed foolish at the time, the church followed their pastor's instructions.
Pastor Alvarez also saw great potential in the nine-month-old Compassion student centre (HO 203) Joyas del Salvador, Saviour's Jewels.

Being a medical doctor, Carlos Alvarez began evangelising the parents as he gave children their regular check-ups.He also noticed that in the past the project director, Nidia Antúnez, only had limited responsibility for the project.He encouraged this talented lady and her team, and they began working hard with a new vision for the project.

"We would like to be serving 1000 children in three years," Carlos Alvarez says with a smile.Seeing what God has done through this church in three years, their dreams will probably
