    Hugo Alvarado, current rector of the Nazarene Theological Seminary of Guatemala (STN), holds several degrees including a bachelor in theology (1999) and a master's in higher education (2003).In December 2005, he became the first to earn a doctorate in applied theology from the Pan-American University of Guatemala.Additionally, this institution is the first Guatemalan university to grant a doctor of theology.

    Alvarado has experience as a high school teacher, a university and seminary professor, a Nazarene pastor (13 years), a participant in various international conferences, and served for nearly a year as Guatemala Central's district superintendent.He is currently the education director for the Mexico/Central America (MAC) Region's Central Field and coordinator of master's studies for the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas (SENDAS).

    Study continues to be in Alvarado's plans, as he hopes to earn a doctorate in religious sociology.Besides his role as rector of STN, he maintains his involvement in the educational realm by teaching in the master of theology and engineering programs of the Mariano Gálvez University of Guatemala and on a bachelor's and master's degree level for the theology department at the Pan-American University.
