FWCC manager Norm Allen, who has been a part of both the McDonald's and Home Hardware committees, said this is a more localized version of the McDonald's event that used to bring in the top curlers from across the country.
"This bonspiel won't ever reach the numbers (of the McDonald's) event," said Allen, who has been the FWCC manager for 18 years."This is an inexpensive bonspiel that local teams can take part in before the playdowns. It's one where you can make some money and not have to spend a whole lot."
The 24-team event is split evenly between men's and women's teams with three of the men's team coming from outside of Thunder Bay which includes Lorne Jackson's Fort Frances rink, Rick Desmoulin's team from Longlac and David Eigner's foursome from Toronto.
