  The organizers invited me to participate in a session "Understanding International Perspectives in Pharmaceutical Medicine" which was arranged by Chris Allen, Past President of IFAPP. Chris gave a talk on Pharmaceutical Medicine Training in the UK based on his personal experience and expanded on the CPI (Certified Physician Investigator Exam) offered by ACRP and I addressed news in Pharmaceutical Medicine in Europe and other regions.

  Also elected to the APPI Board of Trustees for first terms were Christopher P. Allen, MD, FRCA, FFPM, Michael J. Koren, MD, FACC, and Jay Udani, MD, CPI.

  Chris Allen, MD, FRCA, FFPM, leads Global Medical Information at Merck. He previously headed International Phase IV Clinical Research and Investigator initiated studies. Prior to this he was responsible for International Medical Affairs and Clinical Research activities for cholesterol lowering with ezetimibe and ezetimibe-simyastatin. Allen trained at Kings College London and qualified as an anesthesiologist. Chris is a past President of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Physicians.

  So, this will be my last ?President letter?; as you know, in about two weeks in Geneva Christopher Allen will become the new IFAPP President, and he will get the task of maintaining regular contacts with all of you. These two years have been a very busy period, and as frequently happens they flew away very quickly! First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support to IFAPP, and to me; thanks to the members of the Executive Committee, who helped me in the various activities and tasks, thanks to the IFAPP delegates who contributed to IFAPP growth, thanks to ICPM country champions who stimulated the participation to the forthcoming ICPM in Geneva, and finally a big thanks also to our secretarial office efficiently managed by Caroline van Bruggen in Mijdrecht.

  I do hope to see many ? if not all ? of you in Geneva on September 19-22: remember that ICPM is the most important IFAPP event, and I will be extremely pleased to welcome all of you in Geneva.
