DeSoto Police Chief Brent Aldrich said that Elken is a suspect in several burglaries in his jurisdiction, as well as break-ins of other mini-storage units around the area."Stealing that car from DeSoto was his downfall," Aldrich said.He said that break-ins of a mini-storage unit near the ultra-light airfield north of Interstate-80 in DeSoto were reported in both October and November. The car had been stolen in the second reported break-in on Nov. 30."We have been working with several law enforcement agencies on similar break-ins over the past months," Aldrich said.Although Elken listed an address in Prole, Aldrich said he had been living with Sparks in a Des Moines apartment. That residence, at 6101 S.W. Creston, was the site of a search warrant executed following the arrests.Aldrich said that, during that search, other stolen property was recovered. That property has been identified as loot taken in break-ins in DeSoto, Ankeny and in Warren County."The search was carried out by myself, the Polk County Sheriff's Department and Ankeny police," Aldrich said."We have what we believe to be enough evidence against Elken to file more charges," Aldrich said."As soon as Warren County is finished with him, he will be transported up here to Dallas County where those charges will be filed."Aldrich said he worked with law officers in Adel, Winterset, Waukee, Dallas County and Warren County during the investigation.Although the owner of the 1965 Mustang will get his car back, it won't be the same."The car sustained quite a bit of damage during the incidents surrounding the chase," Aldrich said."It's too bad.
