Ray Aldington - Assistant Carillonneur to Bournville Village Trust [England]

Bournville is fortunate in having a second player in Ray Aldington who, having received tuition from Trevor Workman, became his assistant in 1969.

Ray was a founder member and past President of the British Carillon Society and has played all of the 14 Carillons of the British Isles. He has also given recitals abroad in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, the USA and Canada.[top]

Until his recent retirement, Ray was a teacher in Bournville Junior School and had his classroom on the top floor immediately beneath the bells. This proved to be very convenient in being able to show the carillon routinely, as a special 'treat', to final year pupils of the school, and enabled Ray to give his weekly recital each Friday afternoon commencing at 5 o'clock.[top]

In addition to deputising regularly and ably for Trevor Workman as Assistant Carillonneur, Ray also pursues his other bell interests as leader of the tower-bell and hand-bell ringing teams at St. Nicholas Church, Kings Norton, Birmingham.

Ray Aldington - Assistant Carillonneur to Bournville Village Trust [England]

Ray Aldington was appointed to the teaching staff of Bournville Junior School in 1965. Being both a musician and a bellringer, he took an interest in the carillon situated on the school tower, having in previous years enjoyed listening to Clifford Ball's Sunday evening recitals. Eventually he was able to receive tuition from Trevor Workman, and became his assistant in 1969.

A founder member and past President of the British Carillon Society, he has been it's Librarian since it's foundation in 1976.

Ray has played every one of the 14 Carillons in the British Isles and given recitals in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, U.S.A. and Canada. He attended his first World Carillon Federation World Congress in 1978 at Amersfoort (Holland) and gave a recital, (on behalf of the British Carillon Society) at the 6th World Carillon Congress in 1982 at Logumkloster (Denmark).

In 1984 he contributed with Adrian Gebruers and Ronald Leith to the recording Carillons of Scotland featuring the carillons at Aberdeen, Perth and Kilmarnock.

Ray actively pursues his other 'bell' interests as leader of the tower-bell and hand-bell ringing teams at St. Nicolas' Church, Kings Norton.
