NEA Bridge by Phillip Alder
Phillip Alder - bridge champion, coach, author and teacher - writes Newspaper Enterprise Association's internationally syndicated bridge column.A native of London, England, Alder won his first bridge championship in 1971.He went on to represent the U.S. in the World Bridge Championships, was the non-playing captain of a U.S. bronze medal-winning team in the World Women's Team Championship for the McConnell Cup, and has won other titles in both England and the U.S. Alder has also won a Royal Viking Article of the Year award; an award and special commendation for his NEA bridge columns from The American Bridge Teachers' Association; and an award for writing up the best Defensive Deal of the Year from The International Bridge Press Association.Alder is on Philadelphia's Bridge Wall of Fame.Alder has co-authored several books with Dr. George Rosenkranz, including Bid to Win, Play for Pleasure (Devyn Press, 1990).

Alder is associate editor of The Bridge World, was previously editor of Bridge Magazine, and contributes articles to bridge publications in several countries.Alder played as a member of the U.S. exhibition team in New Zealand and Australia.He has coached Australia's junior players, the Open and Women's international teams from Mauritius, World Championship teams from Pakistan and Egypt.He currently teaches bridge classes in New York, Connecticut and his home state of Florida.
