Michael Aldaco is Assistant Vice President of Student Development and Academic Services for the University of California, Office of the President. Michael also serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program, while providing leadership for the Puente Project and other intersegmental outreach efforts at the University of California. Michael has served as Assistant Vice President since 2002 and has been Executive Director of MESA since 1994. He concurrently serves as the founding President of MESA USA, a partnership of programs from eight states that are based on the California MESA model.
Aldaco joined the University of California Office of the President in 1987 as University-wide Director of Student Recruitment and Support, and became Director of Student Affirmative Action, Director of Admissions and Outreach Services, and Executive Director of MESA. Prior to 1987 Michael worked at the University of California at Santa Barbara in the Educational Opportunity Program, the Vice Chancellor's Office for Student Affairs and the Chancellor's Budget and Planning Office. In 1984 he was selected as a UC President's Management Fellow.
Aldaco was a fellow at the National Center for Education Statistics, the National Assembly of Hispanic Higher Education Associations, and a fellow of the Texaco Management Institute (TMI) for Chief Executive Officers of Non-profit corporations. He was also a board member of a think tank on multicultural admissions issues for the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) and a member of a project of the California Postsecondary Education Commission.
Aldaco received his master's degree in education from CSU Bakersfield and his bachelor's degree in sociology at UC Santa Barbara. He is a past president of the UC Santa Barbara Alumni Association. - page top
