CHICAGO - Members of the American Hospital Association's Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development have elected Susan M. Alcorn of Lewisburg incoming president-elect of the society's board of directors for 2005.
Alcorn, chief communications officer, Geisinger Health System, Danville, will serve as president of SHSMD's board in 2006.She will succeed Charlie W. Francis, senior vice president and chief strategy officer, Catholic Healthcare West, San Francisco, who becomes president of the board on Jan. 1, 2005.
Alcorn led the 2005 slate of officers and directors proposed by the Nominating Committee, headed by immediate past president Marty Campanello, and approved by Society members in online elections last month.

Alcorn has 25 years of healthcare marketing and public relations experience in urban, suburban, and rural settings; stand-alone hospitals and integrated health systems, managed care, physician practices, and long-term care and rehabilitation settings.Since 1998, she has been affiliated with Geisinger Health System, an integrated healthcare system consisting of two hospitals, a 250,000-member health plan, a 600-member multispecialty group practice, 41 clinics, and a drug and alcohol treatment center.At Geisinger her responsibilities include branding, community relations, issues and crisis management, media relations, employee/physician communications, marketing, sales, and research.
Alcorn served on the SHSMD board of directors from 1996-97 and from 2000-04.She was chair of the Annual Conference Planning Committee in 2001 and 2002 and is currently serving as co-chair of the Physician Strategies Task Force.She is also a member of the Leadership Development Task Force and the Professional Development Committee.
