Lee Alcorn, president and CEO of Coalition for the Advancement of Civil Rights, asked the Ferris City Council Monday night to begin an investigation on the officer.
Formerly known throughout the Dallas area for his outspokenness and leadership for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Alcorn stressed the importance for the council to support its lone African American councilperson.
"The statement is being used to criminalize, in this case, a council member," said Alcorn.
...
Alcorn said the CACR, which has more than 85 members, would pursue other agencies about the issue and there might be some legal action taken.
Alcorn said the Ferris police were calling it a technical thing.
" It's the technical things that get people in trouble," said Alcorn.
Alcorn also accused Councilman Fred Pontley of calling him earlier in the day and representing himself as Mayor Pro-Tem Scott Born.
...
Alcorn said he would have appreciated a last-minute warning. -
