Lieutenant Amy Alcorn, born in Meridian, Mississippi, and raised in Peoria, Illinois, graduated from Richwoods High School in 1982.She enlisted in the Navy in December 1982.Following basic training, she completed Yeoman training and reported to the staff of the Commander, Naval Surface Group Mediterranean in Naples, Italy.
In 1986, Amy reported to Fighter Squadron 126 (VF 126) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Miramar, California.While there, she advanced to Yeoman Second Class.She then reported to USS Acadia (AD 42) in August 1990.She completed two Western Pacific deployments supporting Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification and advanced to First Class Petty Officer.Upon promotion to Chief Petty Officer in September 1993, Amy transferred to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light Wing at NAS North Island, California, serving as Assistant Administrative Officer.
Amy received her commission as an ensign through the Limited Duty Officer program in April 1996 and returned to Naples as the administrative officer for Commander, Naval Surface Group Mediterranean.Anxious to return to sea, she then reported to San Diego aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5), serving as Ship's Secretary and completed numerous exercises, operations and a Western Pacific deployment.
In July 2000, she reported to Special Boat Unit Twelve at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, as the legal, administrative and personnel officer.While there, she earned her Associates of Arts degree from National University.
Amy joined the Blue Angels in September 2001.Her personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and numerous other service and unit awards.
