   A conversation with Hazel Alcock, interim director of the Pamlico County Partnership For Children, led to her return to the arena of educating youngsters. PCPC was looking for a permanent director.
   
   "My love is children, young children especially," she said. "I knew about Smart Start and knew it was a governor's initiative and that every county had one."
   
   She told herself, "This is exactly, what I feel like I could do."
   
   Nearly a month into the job, she is excited and challenged.
   
   "Money is allocated fairly across the state, but with Pamlico being a small county and obviously not having as many children, we just don't get as much money," she said.
