Garland S. Alcock, M.D. is dedicated to assisting young people in living up to their full potential. Raised on Cape Cod, she benefited from education in the schools of Chatham at a time when academics were generously augmented by an array of service/recreational clubs and programs in fine arts, performing arts and industrial arts as well as athletics. Both through personal experience and professional training, Dr. Alcock has a clear perspective on the impact of resources on child development. Throughout her years at Wellesley College (Class of '69), McGill University (B. Sc.), and Boston University School of Medicine her commitment to the many issues of children grew. Practice with the National Health Service in rural Vermont convinced her that psycho-social issues comprised an impressive segment of pediatric medicine. Residency in Psychiatry at Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA provided a firm foundation in general psychiatry with a unique perspective on the developmental issues of late adolescence. On return to Cape Cod, Dr. Alcock with husband Jeffrey Frankel established ACCEPT, Inc. through which they have created a range of programs for court-involved youth.

Garland S. Alcock earned her B.Sc. from McGill University (P.Q, Canada) and her M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine (Massachusetts, USA). Her work has focused on the developmental issues of children. In her first 6 years of pediatric practice she had responsibility for assessing the needs of physically handicapped children and developing appropriate treatment plans. During the most recent 20 years, she and her husband have designed and operated ACCEPT, Inc. a non-profit corporation which provides comprehensive services to youth adjudicated by the Massachusetts juvenile court system and referred for treatment. Dr. Alcock is the Executive Director of the Corporation and the Clinical Director for all programs operated by ACCEPT, Inc. She is responsible for ensuring that clinical, social, and academic assessments on all enrolled youths identify the youth's individual needs and that appropriate treatment and educational plans are developed and implemented. Dr. Alcock has returned to the Cook Islands for her second program with Global Volunteers.
