John Albright, AAA Auto Club South Ocala branch division manager, surveyed gas availability along Interstate 75 in Marion County on Friday.

"From Wildwood to the north end of Marion County it looks like business as usual," Albright said. But prices are high.

"Regular is your arm, mid-grade is your leg and premium is your first born," he said. One station that had a line was selling regular unleaded for $2.82 a gallon. Most were $2.95 or higher.

"I saw one at $3.09," Albright said. Although Marion County seems to have gas, he said there are spot shortages in cities like Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.

"We are seeing voluntary restrictions by stations," Albright said. "They are limiting you with the amount you can fill up with."

Some "mom and pop" stations that buy off brands are not getting their distributions.

"We are certainly encouraging conservation of fuel, at this point," Albright said. "We are not at a panic stage at this point but we need to be smart."

He could not say whether high gas prices would reduce this Labor Day weekend's holiday traffic but he did say that, about noon Friday, there was only one person in the AAA Ocala office, which is generally jammed the Friday before a holiday.

John Albright, AAA Auto Club South branch manager, said higher prices at the pump have a lot to do with gasoline distributors.

"Distributors impact local prices the most," he said.

St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach, located on Florida's Gulf Coast, are two of the hot spots for Marion County couples who choose to drive to their honeymoon destinations, said John Albright, division manager at the AAA Auto Club South office on State Road 200 in Ocala.

Other popular locations for honeymoon road trips are the Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and the Poconos, according to AAA's travel staff.

Many couples have booked cruises, specifically with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Carnival, to the eastern or western Caribbean, Albright said.

All-inclusive resorts, such as Sandals in Jamaica and St. Lucia, are also a hit with honeymooners, while "Hawaii is still popular," he said.

When planning driving trips or resort vacations, "four to eight months should give you the availability you're looking for," Albright said.

With cruises, couples can still get a "good valued cruise" four to six weeks in advance, he said, noting that there are a lot of cruise deals available.

Those who want to honeymoon in Hawaii should plan their trip six to eight months in advance -- or longer -- for a simple reason, Albright said. "Lots of condos, lots of people, a small space.

"We're seeing honeymooners buying their own packages," he said. "They try to get as much value out of it as they can."

If parents or others are purchasing the honeymoon packages, it's usually more involved, he added.
