Phillips Theological Seminary, Tulsa, has announced that Jerry Duane Albright, previously of Newkirk, is the recipient of the R. G. and Delia Mae Erickson Preaching Award which is presented to outstanding student preachers. The prize is awarded on the basis of a recommendation made by the professors of preaching classes and by selected students from the seminary's community (student) council. In addition to the professor's evaluation of the sermon, consideration is given to the student's classroom preparation and evaluations received by peers. Albright graduated from PTS cum laude with a Master of Divinity degree in May and is to become pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska City, Neb., after leaving his position at the First Christian Church in Newkirk. "The members of the First Christian Church and the community warmly welcomed me and my family and supported us with their prayers for the entire time I attended seminary," says Albright. "It will be hard to leave this place and say goodbye to our friends." PTS is an ecumenical graduate seminary affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Its 180 students come from 15 denominations. In addition to the Master of Divinity degree, PTS offers three other degrees: Master of Arts in Ministry and Culture, Master of Theological Studies, and Doctor of Ministry.
