    James Albright

James Albright has CF, but CF doesn't have him.Diagnosed when he was a teenager, Albright accepted the news in stride by saying "I have things I want to do, so I'm doing them without worrying about perceptions or fear."

At 36, Albright is one of the most active and motivated men in the Washington, D.C. area.He guides a federally-funded community group focusing on youth advocacy issues, manages a career as an environmental consultant to various government entities, and has recently adopted his third child, who also has CF.

In addition to raising three children with his wife, Erin, of 11 years, he also serves as a consultant for the Cadmus Group, Inc., where he provides research and technical support services primarily to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Not only is Albright a dedicated family man and an avid professional, he is also committed to serving his community on a local level. He volunteers on the Annandale Community Coalition of Annandale, Va., where he has offered his allegiance to help develop programs for kids, such as summer tutoring and after-school programs. As co-chairman of the organization for the past five years, Albright devotes himself to establishing this coalition as a self-sustaining non-profit organization to benefit children through as many different venues as possible.

Albright is also active in local government, working with school board members and other political candidates, to hold the concerns of those with CF close while advocating healthy and safe communities for all children.Furthermore, Albright testified on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation before a National Institutes of Health advisory panel to share his view as a patient about the importance of maintaining safety and efficacy while continuing to investigate the potential benefits of gene therapy.

Albright's decision to adopt a child with CF shows that he will not be deterred by this disease, but chooses to share his wisdom and experience related to achieving goals despite any obstacle. When asked how his perspective of parenting a child with CF is influenced by his personal experience with the disease, he admits, "I think they should be treated like children first."
