Western Washington University student David Albright's award-winning documentary, "Smells Like Money: The story of Bellingham's Georgia-Pacific plant," will air on local television channel BTV10 at 6 p.m. on Sundays, and 9 p.m. on Fridays through the end of June.
The film focuses on the history of the Bellingham mill through the perspectives of six former Georgia-Pacific employees who tell the story from its days as Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Co., through the merger with Georgia-Pacific, the strike of 1978, and the environmental concerns that led to the pulp mill's closure in 2001.
"With the redevelopment of the waterfront moving forward, and the pulp mill quickly being disassembled, preserving the history of the former G-P site is becoming an urgent task," Albright said. Albright directed the documentary as a final project for Fairhaven College professor Kathryn Anderson's oral history class.
