Professor of Physics at Vanderbilt University, Royal G. Albridge has spent nearly 40 years in various aspects of education.His areas of expertise range from chemistry to psychology and from physics to ice dancing.Beginning with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at The Ohio State University and continuing with a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of California at Berkeley, Professor Albridge has kept science in focus throughout his life.His fields of specialization include the physics of atomic and molecular processes at surfaces, photoelectron spectroscopy, electron spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy via heavy ion excitation and nuclear spectroscopy.
In his spare time Dr. Albridge has served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, taken two sabbaticals at the University of Uppsala ion Sweden and competed in numerous ice dancing contests.During his sabbatical in Sweden, Dr. Albridge worked with Kai Siegeahn, who later won the Nobel Peace Prize; their work was in the field of physics.

Dr. Albridge has participated in a wide variety of professional activities related to his career in education.Some of these include the following: secretary of the university senate, director of the undergraduate program for the department of physics and astronomy, and the right-to-know coordinator for the department of physics and astronomy.
A United States patent is registered in the name of Royal Gaines Albridge for the method and apparatus for producing neutral atomic and molecular beams.It was issued October 4, 1988.
In addition to his professional activities, he is an avid ice skater with the main interest being in ice dancing.Throughout the year he participates in social ice dance weekends and amateur figure skating competitions in the southeast and Midwest.Presently living in Nashville, Tennessee, with a wife and two daughters, his variety of interests has taken them all over the country and the world.
