Mr. Albertson attended a one-room school on Derby Mesa through eighth grade, and took some high school classes, receiving two eighth-grade diplomas. He left school to work on the ranch, and worked six years as a pool rider for Burns Pool Association and 17 years as range boss. He married Berta A. Gates on July 1, 1933, at the Gates Ranch on Derby Mesa, after they grew up a mile apart. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple built a registered herd of Herefords at a high mountain ranch, now operated by their granddaughter and her family. They also purchased winter range at De Beque in 1966. Mr. Albertson was an active member of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association, the Eagle County Cattlemen, the Burns School Board and other community and church groups. His life culminated in his love for God, for his wife and family, and for their way of life. He lived and loved the cattle business, and still rode during calving and gathering at age 90. He loved being able to drive a bunch of cows up or down a trail where others had decided it couldn't be done. He often said, "A good cowboy knows what a cow was thinking just before she thought of it."
