The heavy rain left grounds superintendent Larry Albertsen and his crew of 10 workers with plenty of work to do and little time in which to get it done.

"We will do what we can do to make sure the course is playable for the tournament," Albertsen said Thursday morning during a heavy downpour."We need four or five hours without rain so we can get out and mow the greens. If it rains too long we won't be able to mow the greens. We'll play if there's no standing water. If there is standing water, the committee will have a decision to make."

Albertsen said that most of the sand bunkers have been replaced in recent years and only a few will have problems with standing water.

Albertsen said the crew was able to mow the rough and fairways on Wednesday.

The rain, more than anything else, was creating frustration all the way around.

"It's frustrating, yet it's something someone deals with day to day," said Albertsen, who has been grounds superintendent at BGC since 1989.
