"He just loved life," said his wife, Hazel Alberts.

"At this point they were taking half in the army and half in the navy, and they numbered them off," said Hazel Alberts.

After a season coaching at Palatine High School, Alberts returned to Lincoln as an assistant basketball coach at LCHS. The head coaching duties he took on there were not in basketball, but in tennis, a game he only picked up after college. He remained the Railers' tennis coach for 34 years, until he retired in 1997.
After that he became a salesman for his wife's Hazel Alberts Real Estate. He has also been active playing in a men's tennis group about three times a week and competing in a bridge club. He has been instrumental in getting a lot of involvement at the Elks Club.
