    Washington, DC -- April 3, 2008 -- The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) announced today the appointment of Susan Albertine as the first senior director of LEAP State Initiatives in AAC&U's Office of Curriculum, Quality, and Assessment.Albertine currently holds the position of dean of the School of Culture and Society and professor of English at The College of New Jersey.She will begin her work at AAC&U in July 2008.

    In her role as Senior Director, Albertine will provide proactive intellectual and practical leadership for the overall program of LEAP partner state initiatives.She will serve as the key liaison with multiple project contacts in the field, including policy, campus, business, Pre K-16 (pre-kindergarten through college), and community leaders.

    Albertine brings to her new position many years of experience leading undergraduate education, curriculum transformation, and Pre K-16 reform initiatives.She has been dean of the School of Culture and Society and professor of English at The College of New Jersey since 2002.Previously, she served as vice provost for undergraduate studies, Temple University, and assistant to the provost, University of Pennsylvania.She has held faculty positions at the University of North Florida, St. Olaf College, and Susquehanna University, where she was chair of the Department of English.Albertine received her BA in English from Cornell University, her MA in English from SUNY-Cortland, and her Ph.D. in English from the University of Chicago.

    Albertine also brings to AAC&U experience as a former public school teacher.She has been nationally active in preschool through college alignment projects, working with the Education Trust on a sponsored project called Quality in Undergraduate Education (1999-2004) and with the American Diploma Project as a member of the New Jersey team and also as consultant to the English language arts national team.

    Albertine serves on many boards, including the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) where she became president-elect in November 2007.She is a national coleader of the Educated Citizen and Public Health initiative, a collaborative project cosponsored by APTR (Association for Prevention Teaching and Research, CCAS, AAC&U, and other organizations, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
