ASHLAND, Ohio
Mary Alberta (Young) Richards, 90, of Ashland, Ohio, died early Tuesday at home.
She was born in Hereford Hill Farm, near New London, and lived most of her life in the Ruggles and Nova areas. For 27 years, she was a seamstress and supervisor at the former C.E. Ward Co. of New London. She was on the board of the Ashland County Council on Aging and was active with local senior citizens. Starting in her mid-70s, she was an Ashland County Head Start Grandmother for eight years in Sullivan.
She was a past member of Ruggles Church and a present member of Nova United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a life member of the Ruggles Township Hill and Valley Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Marlene Carnahan of Ashland; one son, Leslie (Nancy) Young of Mansfield; three daughters-in-law, Bernice Young of Millersburg, Ohio, Cleo Young of Ashland and Marian Young of New London; two stepsons, Stanley (Betty) of Strasburg, Ohio and Donald (Mic) of Waynesville, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert S. Young, in 1964; her second husband, Victor, in 1980; two sons, Virgil E. Young and Albert T. Young; her parents, William and Minnie (Smith) Knowlton; two sisters, Hazel Beagly and Phebe Sutorius; one brother, Charles Knowlton; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and Thursday at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where services will be 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Shawn Goodwin of Nova United Methodist Church and the Rev. Garry Guiffre of Ruggles Church will officiate.
