   Elizabeth Albert, diagnosed with a developmental disability at a young age, is a published writer, college graduate and active member of the community. Her determination was evident from childhood, recall her parents. "She was a very bright kid, very aware of herself and her surroundings. She always wanted the best for herself and would never take 'no' for an answer."
   
   Elizabeth graduated from Scarsdale High School, then earned an associates degree in liberal arts from Elizabeth Seton College and a certificate in secretarial studies from Westchester Business Institute. "In the 1970's, there was a tremendous amount of pressure on women," she recalls.

   Over the last several years, Elizabeth has become very active in the community. As a self-advocate, she has delivered speeches to the White Plains Women's Club and the Rotary Club. She has served on Westchester ARC's board of directors, was recording secretary for the One/Another Self-Advocacy Group and is a volunteer for the American Red Cross in White Plains.
